Probably my all time favorite song to sing acapella live. We only sing it live acapella, and when the crowd joins in, I feel loved. (I feel loved other times also, but I feel loved every time the audience sings this song with me too.)
Fun Fact #6
During our 17 year hiatus of not doing Dan H Band concerts, one of my day jobs was to go around the world and sell records for artists like Jars of Clay, Fred Hammond, Michael W. Smith and Donnie McClurkin (that guy can sing, he was always very nice to me and an impassioned singer, if you haven’t heard him, check out this video of him singing at Whitney Houston’s funeral.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDiwVeLhXF0 I know he lived through horrible things as a child, but I always got the impression that he wanted to use the gift of his voice to let people know how much they were loved and understood by their creator.) He inspires me. Back to the fun fact, I traveled to every continent except one, Antarctica, to sell these CD’s to international distributors that often became my friends. Often when at a sales conference, restaurant, on an airplane or meeting someone on the street, when they found out that I was a former professional musician, they would asked me to sing a song. I would sing “Flowers”. I have sung Flowers in more countries around the world doing my day job then I did when I was a professional musician. Go figure. I had a day off once during a European tour and was watching a Wimbledon tennis match; members of the Royal family were there along with Cliff Richards, during a rain break someone said, “Come on Cliff, give us a song.” He did, and it was awesome. It inspired me, and to this day when someone tells me they are an aspiring music artist, I ask them to sing me a song.
Lyrics
Travel lightly. Don’t forget your way back home. It was only you this time. Please remember what I’ve said and what I’ve done. It was only you this time. Don’t be silent. Ask the questions that you need. It was only you this time. I’ll be praying. I’ll be wishing you were here. It was only you this time.
When you go, you take all the flowers with you. I remember when they were mine. When you go, you could see the world and wonder. If you could see this world, I wonder what you’d say.
